The 2002 National Assessment of Adult Literacy shows that in Wayne County 6,000 adults or 8% lack even basic reading skills. 2000 U.S. Census figures taken from factfinder.census.gov show that 19.8% of all adults over the age of 25 in Wayne County are lacking a high school diploma and have limited English speaking skills. In the Red Creek / Wolcott area that figure is 30.8% of the population over the age of 25.
