Today's Food for Thought

Literacy: The quality or state of being literate, especially the ability to read and write. source dictionary.com

The 2002 National Assessment of Adult Literacy shows that in Wayne County 6,000 adults or 8% lack even basic reading skills. 2000 U.S. Census figures taken from factfinder.census.gov show that 19.8% of all adults over the age of 25 in Wayne County are lacking a high school diploma and have limited English speaking skills.  In the Red Creek / Wolcott area that figure is 30.8% of the population over the age of 25.

* Additional food for thought the Red Creek Free Library has the smallest operating budget of all Libraries in Wayne County.
